Topic: Civility and Respect in the Workplace

Description: With the decrease in COVID-19 positivity rates and increase in vaccination rates, many employers are calling for their employees to return to the workplace. After a year or so of working in isolation at home, many people are experiencing significant anxiety and even dread at the idea of going back to the workplace. As we return to our busy work environments, it seems as if almost every task is deemed urgent. We are faced with constant interruptions, competing priorities all while dealing with the impact returning to work and constantly changing COVID guidelines may have on employee's mental health. When this happens, courtesy is often the first casualty. Together we will learn more about having patience and empathy about the new workplace and what in-person interactions may look like after working remotely.

-To define workplace civility and collegiality.
-To recognize behaviors in ourselves and others and to address them.
-Our goal is to increase patience, empathy, civility, collegiality and respect among colleagues and co-workers to promote a healthy and enjoyable work environment for all.

Presenter: Tamara Gouger, Director of Human Resources 

Tamara is the Director of Human Resources and Affirmative Action at SUNY Brockport. She has worked in Human Resources for 25 years with a strong focus on employee relations, training and professional development, recruitment and retention and compensation. She has worked in corporate, healthcare and higher education throughout her career and she is married and has 2 sons
