Registered Apprenticeship
Join NYSDOL, SUNY and CUNY to learn about Registered Apprenticeship and how it can be used to support your students and regional employers. NYSDOL will provide an Apprenticeship 101 and SUNY and CUNY will discuss the programs each offers, including pre-apprenticeship, training and funding opportunities as well as Prior Learning Assessment.

Lauren Andersen, University Associate Provost, Careers & Industry Partnerships, CUNY
Chris Pinheiro, Director, Apprenticeship and Infrastructure, NYS Department of Labor, Division of Employment and Workforce Solutions
Chris started with the Department of Labor in 2006 and has spent his entire career with DOL, specifically in the Division of Employment and Workforce Solutions. He has held a variety of roles, beginning as a program monitor reviewing local Workforce Investment Act programs before transitioning to a central office role. His focus there was on policy and performance, eventually becoming the manager of the Policy and Planning Unit in DEWS. He became the Director of Apprenticeship in June 2021 and the Director of Apprenticeship and Infrastructure in May 2023. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Providence College, is an avid skier, a lifelong fan of the Red Sox and Patriots, and is a self-proclaimed Star Wars nerd. He currently resides in the Capital District with his wife and two young children.
Denise Zieske, Assistant Vice Chancellor of Workforce Development, Office of Community Colleges and the Education Pipeline, SUNY
Denise Zieske develops and implements workforce programs and related initiatives for SUNY’s colleges and supports SUNY’s workforce efforts at the state and national level. Prior to joining SUNY, Denise served as the Vice President for Workforce Development and Community Education at SUNY Schenectady County Community College. Her career has included work in many aspects of economic and workforce development. Denise holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Drew University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University at Albany.
