Credit for Prior Learning – Transfer Pathways Crosswalks
Assessing prior learning is the process of evaluating knowledge and skills to award credit for college-level learning that happens outside of the traditional classroom environment. On your campus, credit for prior learning probably includes many different options, including AP, IB, ACE military, CLEP, challenge exams, demonstration of skills, portfolio, and/or transcript reviews. One way to expand credit for prior learning is to find evaluations that are consistent from one student learning experience to another both on your campus and across campuses.
Our first presenter, Ellen Gambino, Provost Fellow with SUNY System Administration will highlight ongoing efforts within the SUNY system, share best practices, introduce key resources from CAEL and address common misconceptions with CPL. Our second presenter, Liz Brown, Director of SUNY Canton’s Center for Criminal Justice, Intelligence, and Cybersecurity (CJIC) will discuss one way to incorporate transcripts to complete an evaluation and then code the evaluation in your campus transfer database. An example using NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) approved police academies will be used.
