What does the Advocacy and Resolutions Committee do?
The Advocacy and Resolutions Committee recommends priorities for CEANY's state and federal advocacy agendas and directs member efforts to influence continuing public higher education policy.
The Advocacy Committee provides strategic direction to execute CEANY's advocacy priorities at various levels of government and CUNY and SUNY central system. Employing a holistic approach and a strategic vision of what can be achieved, the Committee maximizes CEANY's impact by communicating and meeting with CUNY and SUNY officials, forging partnerships with state and national organizations focused on supporting our members, engaging other advocates, and developing advocacy activities and campaigns, as needed. It positions CEANY as a key player in Albany and New York City in advocating for the profession and our students. The Committee also informs the CEANY membership of the latest developments and proposed changes in state and federal laws, guidelines, regulations, and programs.

Advocacy and Resolutions Co-Chairs Carrie Whitmore and David Kohn at the 2023 Workforce Development Advocacy Day. They advocated in support for Senator Roxanne Presaud's legislation S2144 - Exempts income earned by persons from certain job training or adult education programs from the determination of need for public assistance programs.

What does the Annual Conference Committee do?
Plan, arrange & run the annual conference & meeting of the membership. Establish & lead committee members in the content, organization, recruitment & implementation of the annual conference including vendors, registration, recruitment, logistics, hotel contracts, theme.How often do we meet and what is discussed?
The committee typically meets at a minimum of five times per year in advance of our board meetings and then additional meetings as needed in September through November before the conference. These meetings are typically no more than 1 hour in length and are held remotely via Zoom. We discuss our goals, plans and events for the year.

What does the Archivist Committee do?
The Archivist is responsible for collecting, organizing, and disseminating, as appropriate, all historically significant documents, records, and memorabilia of the Association.
Historical documents are to be kept and organized by the Archivist and be made available for review by appropriate individuals. Upon request of the President or from appropriate members of the Executive Board, the Archivist may search the archives to obtain pertinent information for use by Association officials or their representatives. Archival contents are not to be transported to meetings or conferences but should be retained in their entirety in a safe and permanent location by the archivist. Exceptions, as provided by the Archivist, may be considered. The storage and care of the archives are carried out within the perimeters stated within the CEANY Collection Policy (see separate document).
An annual review of the health of the archive collection should be conducted and recommendations of any changes made to the Executive Committee. Archives is the wide lens of the organization so recommendations on dissemination, digitization or easier access to the collection should always be on the forefront of discussion based on new technology that becomes available or new laws that require different collection processes.
We prepare and submit an annual report regarding committee activities at the subsequent Executive Board meeting following the annual conference.
How often do we meet and what is discussed?
We meet roughly 4 to 5 times per year.
We discuss new acquisitions, missing required documents, assessment, and health of current collections holdings, discuss potential digitization/dissemination opportunities to allow easier access to members.

What does the By-Laws Committee do?
The By-Laws Committee is responsible for reviewing and recommending revisions to the association’s By-Laws. The main responsibilities include:
How often do we meet and what is discussed?
The By-Laws Committee meets about twice per year to review if the By-Laws are in line with the Association’s current needs and non-profit law. The committee will meet more often if amendments are needed, and especially if it is determined to revise the By-Laws and present it at the Annual Meeting of the Membership for a vote. Additional meetings may occur when the CEANY Policies & Procedures Manual or Certificate of Incorporation needs updating as well.

The By-Laws was overhauled and re-written, and subsequently approved by the membership during the Annual Meeting of the Membership on November 6, 2020. What does the Membership, Engagement & Communications Committee do?
The committee is tasked with informing members and the community about the work that CEANY is doing in the field of adult workforce and continuing education through our various communication avenues. The committee actively engages our members while exploring opportunities to recruit new members. We accomplish this throughout the year in many ways through our Open House, Tri-Regional and Annual conferences, Ask CEANY events and social media engagement.
How often do we meet and what is discussed?
The committee typically meets at a minimum five times per year in advance of our board meetings. These meetings are typically no more than 1 hour in length and are held remotely via Zoom. We discuss our goals, plans and events for the year.

What does the Nominations Committee do?
The Nominations Committee is responsible for preparing and maintaining the Associations Board of Directors Slate for Executive Board positions, the Board of Directors Directory, Committee member lists, putting call out for nominations, develop nominee profiles. In addition, the Nominations Committee Organizes the new professional receptions for the Annual Conference and assigns mentor/mentees for all new CEANY Members to become more acquainted with the organization and other members.
How often do we meet and what is discussed?
The Nominations Committee meets up to 4 to 5 times per year. General from the spring till Conference. We discuss open board seats and plan the annual slate, update the committee member lists, and plan the new member reception for our annual conference.

What does the Professional Development Committee do?
The Professional Development committee provides professional development workshops and webinars for members and other adult educators across the state; introduce "state of the art" ideas and knowledge that serve to improve adult education programs and services within New York; create an increased awareness of the critical need for on-going professional development for continuing education practitioners.
How often do we meet and what is discussed?
The PD committee meets virtually 2-3 times per semester to discuss upcoming webinars, topics of interest to the members, and identify experts and practitioners across the state to deliver the sessions.

What does the Recognition and Awards Committee do?
The recognition and awards committee coordinate, promotes, and supports the CEANY's outstanding recognition and awards program. The committee manages the nomination and selection process for Continuing Education program recognition, scholarships, and awards.
Committee members will:
The Outstanding Adult Student winners and the state-wide winner are notified by their region chair. Membership includes each regional chair or a designee.
How often do we meet and what is discussed?
Awards and Recognition committee members meet 4-5 times per year and as needed during the selection process.
Meetings are held in-person and remote in advance of CEANY quarterly board meetings.
Meetings are typically scheduled for an hour to plan, review award selection criteria, discuss the creation of new awards, and revise existing awards.

What does the Website Committee do?
We are responsible for the upkeep, esthetics, and functionality on the organization's website. Some responsibilities include updating of website content; working with committee chairs to set up the registration of their events and email reminders for: annual conference, regional meetings, and professional development webinars; troubleshooting issues; provide data to committees that require access to registration information.
How often do we meet and what is discussed?
We meet roughly 4 to 5 times a year.
At our meetings we evaluate areas that we can expand on and promote more foot traffic on the site. Decide on which projects will be done in house by committee and which projects need to be contracted out.
