Details for the CEANY Wednesay, June 10th, 2020 Brown Bag Webinar

Topic: Got Biases? Discover and slay your implicit biases

Description: Continuing Educators are often at the forefront of providing and/or attending education and training on multi-culturalism and cultivating positive working, community, and learning environments in consideration of Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity (EDI). In order to be an effective advocate for EDI, it is critical that all professionals pause to assess their own private theories, implicit biases, and stereotypes that hinder their effectiveness and ability to work and lead to their full potential in a diverse society. Yes, we all have implicit biases!

In this interactive session, you will participate in an activity to discover your own biases and consider their origins in the context of your life experiences, private theories, personal judgments, and interpretation of “facts”, as well as consider strategies that will ultimately assist you in identifying how and why your biases exist and how to slay them. Join this fun and eye-opening session with an open mind and a willingness to change your mind….

Presenter: Karen Schuhle-Williams, Ph.D., has been a long-time CEANY member, actively participating on the Board of Directors for over 15 years, chairing two annual conferences, as a conference committee member multiples times, chairing the Awards and Resolutions committee, and co-chairing the Professional Development Committee and she is currently, a member of the Community, Membership, and Engagement committee. She was a recipient of a Marketing award, the CEANY Outstanding Continuing Educator award, and nominated many Region West and state-wide Outstanding Adult Student awardees. For more than 25 years, Dr. Schuhle-Williams worked in continuing education in corporate training on a grant-funded workplace literacy program with Monroe Community College, and in the for-credit realm at Finger Lakes Community College and SUNY Brockport, over-seeing summer and winter-sessions, online/hybrid education, off-campus education, and adult student advocacy. She is currently the Graduate Director for SUNY Brockport’s 90% online Higher Education Administration MSEd. program, which is particularly geared for busy, working adults.
