Topic: Micro-Credentials in Continuing Education 

Description: Institutions of higher education are developing and implementing both credit and non-credit micro-credentialing programs that respond to student and industry demands. The concept of the credential is a transnational, interdisciplinary signal of capability and skill. Micro-credentials, which are competency-based, show proof of specific learning achievements. This trend provides an excellent opportunity for Continuing Education units to partner with industry and credit areas and embrace “stackable” credentials, which moving students through a pathway of learning This webinar will provide consideration on adopting a micro-credentialing program and how to do so effectively. Ways that institutions are implementing micro-credentialing programs will be shared. Resources will be shared on how campuses or varying types and sizes are approaching and standing-up Micro-credentials.

 Presenter: Jill Pippin , Dean of Extended Learning, State University of New York (SUNY) at Oswego As Dean, Jill leads the Extended Learning Division at SUNY Oswego, which offers programs and services such as Summer and Winter Sessions, Instructional Design services, Online and Distance Learning Degrees, Evening & Part Time Degrees, Adult & Non Traditional Student Advisement, High School Concurrent Enrollment, English for Academic Purposes, Intensive English, Testing & Proctoring, Veteran & Military Services, Non Credit Professional Development, Contract Training, and Youth Programs. Her division works closely with all offices on campus and external partners to assess an educational need, and craft innovative, flexible and responsive ways to promote lifelong learning and continuing education.

Prior to joining SUNY Oswego in 2014, she worked as Dean for Continuing Education and a member of the senior academic leadership team responsible at SUNY Jefferson Community College. She holds a Masters in Business Administration from Franklin University and a Bachelors degree in Communication Studies – Interpersonal from SUNY Oswego
