The Career Development Center at the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Binghamton invites applications for this position. We are seeking a visionary and strategic leader to join our team as the Assistant Provost and Director of Workforce Development. This individual will be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing workforce development programs that align with industry trends and organizational goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in workforce planning, training and development, and program management, with a proven track record of fostering professional growth and organizational development.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Responsibilities include:

  • Work with senior administration to define Binghamton University's role in Workforce Development for the region and the state.
  • strategic Planning and Leadership: develop and execute a comprehensive workforce development strategy that aligns with the goals of the University and its industry partners. Lead and mentor a team of workforce development professionals.
  • Program Development and Management: design, implement, and evaluate effective training and development programs that address workforce needs. Ensure programs are scalable, cost-effective, and have measurable outcomes.
  • Partnership and Collaboration: collaborate with internal stakeholders, local school systems, vocational training programs, SUNY Broome Community College and industry partners to identify workforce trends and skills gaps. Develop strategic partnerships to facilitate and enhance training and development opportunities.
  • Create a Portal that identifies all University workforce development activities, focal points, external organizations involved and determine where we have gaps in our programs.
  • Work with the Division of Research, faculty and staff to create new workforce development programs to address these gaps.
  • Work with and support the Fleishman Career Center's equitable and efficient hiring practices, and collaboration with their industry specialist and programs to connect students to full-time jobs, paid internships, for-credit internship program, and skill-building programs by employers. 
  • Work with stakeholders in seeking out new opportunities for workforce development grants, as well as working with others to complete grant applications. 
  • Performance and Impact Analysis: monitor and analyze the effectiveness of workforce development programs, making data-driven decisions to continually improve and adapt strategies. Report on program outcomes and return on investment to senior administration.
  • Budget Management: oversee the budget for workforce development initiatives, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently and effectively to support program objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's Degree
  2. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in workforce development, training and development, or a similar field, with at least three (3) years in a leadership role
  3. Strong leadership and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to inspire and lead teams towards achieving organizational goals
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels
  5. Proficiency in program development, management, and evaluation
  6. Experience working with both industry and academic partners
  7. Knowledge of current and emerging workforce development trends, technologies, and methodologies

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree
  • Knowledge of Broome County and Southern Tier education and employment landscape
